    ASK THE EXPERT
Q: Sometimes we get questions from young people thinking about HR as a career. Recently a high school student in Florida asked the following.
Other than hiring and firing employees, what does an HR person do on a daily basis?
A:

Every day human resource executives, managers, professionals, technicians and administrative support staff have plenty of opportunities to influence and affect organizations? mission-critical strategies, goals, visions and plans. Human resource professionals develop appropriate classifications and job titles, create compensation (salary) and benefit (mandatory and optional) plans and establish performance management systems. This could be called ?right seats.? HR staffs also work on recruitment and selection functions ? finding the ?right people.? Once an employee begins working for an organization, the human resources department is responsible for ensuring that employees have the ?right skills.? The organization may perform in-house training and development or, as necessary, can make available specialized and technical training.
