Q: How do you determine the labor market to include in a compensation study?
A:

In determining a labor market, you should identify agencies that perform similar work, are of a similar size and generally are within a certain geographic radius to your agency. You want to determine who the competitors are for your employees. These competitors need to offer jobs similar to your agency's positions and be within a reasonable commuting distance. For example, if you have recently lost employees to other nearby agencies, these agencies definitely should be considered.
